French Wines: Guy Charlemagne

Winegrowers from father to son since 1892, the Charlemagne family grows and makes Champagne solely from its own property. It is with this experience that they make Champagne known by enthusiasts as CHARLEMAGNE. The vineyard is situated in the heart of the Cotes des Blancs, in one of the most famous of Champagne: Le Mesnil, classed as GRAND CRU, and rated at 100%. The vineyards are predominately Grand Cru Chardonnay (with some Pinot Noir for the pink and brut extra grown outside this district). The thirty-year-old vines (one of the best sites in all of Champagne) are grown on chalk soil, which yields wines with finesse and elegance. The Charlemagne Champagnes regularly receive 4 stars from the 'Revue de Vins de France.'

Grand Cru Mesnil Chardonnay: Finesse & Lightness

Many of our customers who have tasted this Champagne consider it 'the quintessential Champagne' because it is as good as the best bottle they ever had! It is subtle and refined with structure, balance, and a long, lingering finish. A beautiful mousse, thick and full of finesse. The rich nose shows fruity and floral aromas, with a hint of toast and yeast for complexity. Rich, yet delicate.

Here is what Wine Spectator had to say:
"A luxurious, comforting Champagne with lots of flavor and an invitingly rich texture. Its buttery, figgy aromas and flavors are layered and complex, lingering on the lively finish..."-Wine Spectator Score 91

    • Brut Rose

Made from only Pinot Noir grapes from their Sézanne vineyards, this lovely rosé has firm raspberry fruits on the nose and palate with a moderately full body and lingering finish. That the Champagne is made from Pinot Noir gives the wine a fruitier and rounder flavor profile and adds depth and length to the finish. Technically a Blanc de Noirs, this is a delightful wine to enjoy in front of the fire in winter or at a fancy picnic in the summer. Create your own special occasion with this Champagne. Not to be missed, this is one of the best Champagne Rosé values around! Mme. Charlemagne suggests lobster, raviolis with St. Jacques or smoked salmon blini. Don’t miss it!
